Mrs. MAC's EMPORIUM was built in 1891 and was known as the Federal Stores. George Thomas took over the business in 1896. Bridget McPherson ("Mrs. Mac") moved into the premises in the 1960's. Celebrating her 100th birthday on September 15, 1988, she was featured on television working in her store and was billed as Australia's oldest taxpayer. She died in Pambula District Hospital at 103 years of age.
